Has Technology Affected The Media Industry Positively or Negatively?

Back in the days, people in the media industry, be it music or video section, relied heavily on CD sales to make a profit from their album release. Is it still so now? Has technology affected the media industry positively or negatively? Let us find out as we walk through it!

Below is a list of some major ways media contents can get to users or consumers without the use of CD or even spending a penny.

Memory Card
Internet
Music sharing apps
Video streaming apps
Based on the list above, are media performers benefiting from this new technologies?  let us explain each and see📍

1) Memory Card: We all know how a 1 GIB memory card, which costs less than a dollar will carry well over 300 musics. Now imagine the amount you spend in buying all those CD that will give you 300 musics. That will be a very huge sum of money for the artist which eats deep into your pocket. Now that you have easily gotten them by simply transferring to your memory card via a computer, how will the artist gain?

2)Internet: Do you know websites like naijaloaded.com?music212.com?naijabambam.com?wapdam.com?waptrick.com?nob360.com? what do you basically do at those sites other than downloading videos and musics most of the times? I hope your question is now answered on how internet has affected media industry. you only pay a little for data subscription.

3)Music Sharing Apps: Songza.tomahawk, double twist. google music. I tunes. A search will let you know how easy they have made music and video sharing to be.

4) Video Streaming Apps:  Without doubt, you all know of youtube and netflix. Do you also know there are several other streaming apps that you will see with a simple google search? While most of them are priced on per monthly basis, others are still free. Twitch is free while Sling TV is 19.99$ per month. Same way for Hulu, which also has its own monthly subscription fee.

This are the few i was able to come up with. There are others which i don't know where to classify them like Bluetooth sharing, NFC, Infrared, xender, flash share ,etc.

While it has drastically reduced the amount artists make from sale of CD plate, big and old time artist still have their ways to make money that most times they even release their musics and videos link out for free downloads. Some of the ways are endorsement deals from multi million companies, hosting a TV reality show, going for shows, etc. This, however, affects the upcoming and rising artist who most times, depends solely on sale of CD to make money to further their career in the media industry.

So for me, i will say it is affecting old time artists, who have a huge fan base across social media platform positively, while new artists suffer the pains of technology to their career.
